‘Global expansion’: Invictus Gaming Deal Sees G2 Enter Dota 2 with Chinese Superteam

While North and South American Dota 2 have entered a sponsor drought, China’s scene in the esport is thriving. The latest boost for the region is G2 Esports officially entering the game, partnering with Invictus Gaming to form a new superteam.

G2’s arrival into Dota 2 via a collaboration with iG was first hinted to on November 11th, when the Chinese organization confirmed their roster for the forthcoming season. Two logos were hidden in the shadows of the team design, one practically obscured altogether except for a sparkling red eye. G2 has already announced the collaboration, with both organizations joining G2.iG

This relationship will provide iG with additional support from a team outside of China, allowing it to expand into new markets. G2 adds that this is the next step in its “global expansion” as it enters a crucial market with a relationship that delivers regional expertise and an established name in Dota—a game that has been a “longstanding target” for the organization.

“Both China and Dota have been at the forefront of our minds for a long time but until now, we haven’t found the right fit that would work in the long term,” Alban Dechelotte, the founder and CEO of G2, stated. “We know partnering with iG – who have a Worlds trophy and an Aegis, will enable us to build the best team and we can bring the G2 way to yet another region and a new esport.”
This season, iG kept JT- from its previous lineup before making four new players. NothingToSay was obtained via a move from PSG.LGD teamed up with former Team Aster standout Monet to form a star-studded mid and carry duo. After five years away from the organization, BoBoKa returned to iG from Aster, bringing xNova from BOOM Esports with him—after the two spent time playing together from August to November. Super and @dogf1ghts coach the team, and KBBQ now has another team to handle.
