Insomniac Games has issued a statement in response to the developer’s recent ransomware incident. It expresses gratitude to fans and colleagues for their “outpouring of compassion and unwavering support” amid a difficult time for the Burbank studio.
“We’re both saddened and angered about the recent criminal cyberattack on our studio and the emotional toll it’s taken on our dev team,” the message goes on to say. “We have focused inwardly for the last several days to support each other.”
The data hack made public “personal information belonging to our employees, former employees, and independent contractors,” as well as “early development details about Marvel’s Wolverine,” according to Insomniac. The issue is described as “extremely distressing” by the developer. It goes on to say that development on the aforementioned game “is proceeding as planned” and that formal details regarding the PS5 exclusive will be released “when the time is right.”
After a seven-day deadline to pay the ransom, the criminal group apparently revealed 98% of the data it obtained from Insomniac Games. Sony published a statement before the stolen material was shared, but has yet to respond. Meanwhile, internet service providers are issuing DMCA notices to customers who have obtained and downloaded a playable early build of Marvel’s Wolverine.
