The first trailer for Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI has released after years of rumor and speculation. The trailer was initially leaked less than a day before its scheduled release, prompting Rockstar to release it early. GTA VI, as previously reported, will send players to Vice City–and the larger state of Leonida–and is set to release in 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar Games has announced that the next GTA game is in the works, but this is the first time we’ve heard anything about what to expect. Based on the teaser, it looks that the speculations about GTA VI featuring two protagonists–a guy and a woman–were also right. We learn that the female character is an ex-convict.
Other elements include an airboat, an alligator being dragged out of a backyard pool (and subsequently into a store), police bodycam footage, the return of Weazel News, dirt bikes and quads, an alleged convenience store heist, and a lot of neon. Some screenshots from the trailer are shown above.
“Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences,” Rockstar founder Sam Houser stated in a news release. “We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”
According to the press release, the game is set in Leonida, Rockstar’s version of Florida, where players will explore “the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond.”
All of this is more mood-setting than anything else.
