Sony has announced that its PlayStation Plus Season of Play event will begin on December 5 and will last until January 5. The event will feature PlayStation product bonuses and discounts, tournaments, a free online multiplayer weekend, and Crunchyroll titles coming to Sony’s streaming service.
Despite being a member of PlayStation Plus, not all Season of Play events require a membership. Non-members and members alike will be able to claim free PS4 and PS% avatars honoring some of PlayStation Plus’s most successful titles. All players may also save 15% on PlayStation merchandise throughout the holidays by entering the code SEASONOFPLAY15.
Sony is also holding a contest to win a PS5 console as well as a 12-month subscription to PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe, the most costly PS+ subscription tier. The challenge, unlike the other Season of Play events, will not appear on the PS+ webpage until December 19. To compete, Sony claims players must answer five questions regarding the PS+ gaming catalog, but it’s unclear whether this will be a trivia-style competition or a survey.
On the weekend of December 9-10, players who do not have an active PS+ subscription will be able to participate in free online multiplayer. While online multiplayer is generally restricted to PS+ subscribers, all PlayStation owners will be allowed to play their games online for one weekend only.
The big one for PS+ members is a series of PlayStation Tournaments that will take place between December 12 and December 17, featuring tournament games including EA Sports FC 24, NBA 2K24, Madden NFL 24, and MLB the Show 23. Participants in the tournament will have the opportunity to win a Premium/Deluxe membership as well as be immediately entered into a drawing to win a digital edition PS5.
PS+ subscribers who are also PlayStation Stars members will be able to earn bonus points just by downloading and playing the free PS Plus games for December–LEGO 2K Drive, Powerwash Simulator, or Sable.
Finally, the Season of Play rewards PS+ members who use Sony Pictures Core, Sony’s digital movie rental and sales program. Through the promotion, all PS+ members will have access to discounts on specific titles, with fresh offers being released every Friday. Deluxe/Premium members who can stream a selection of these titles on demand as part of their subscriptions will also get access to a selection of Crunchyroll titles, including episodes from Eighty Six, Iruma-kun, To Your Eternity, and more.
The event begins on December 5 at 2 a.m. PST, when details on all of these events are made available on the PlayStation Plus website.
